GOTHIC: The term Gothic is the same as goth, Gothdom, gothik etc. The only difference is noun or adjective use. Goth is typically used as either a noun (especially when referring to a person) or an adjective; Gothic is usually an adjective e.g. That person is a Goth. Those boots are gothic. Goth is often capitalized when referring to a person. However, capitalization can be arbitrary. There is no general distinction between these terms or standards for usage. For our purposes, we'll use these words interchangeably.
Gothic: Of or pertaining to a literary style of fiction prevalent in the late 18th and early 19th centuries which emphasized the grotesque, mysterious, and desolate: a gothic novel.
What does gothic mean in regards to the group of people? Here's where it gets confusing. There are things that many Goths like that are not gothic (Industrial or Classical music). There are things that are gothic that many Goths dislike (vampires, interest in death). There are things that some people think are gothic that are not gothic (bands like Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails), and there are things that do not call themselves gothic even if they are considered gothic by most people (bands like Sisters of Mercy and Dead Can Dance). However, there's no Grand Gothic Judge to decree what is truly Goth and what is not, although there are plenty of people who claim to be it. ELEGANT GOTHIC LOLITA:
Lolita fashion (ãƒãƒªãƒ¼ã‚¿・ファッション RorÄ«ta fasshon?) is a fashion subculture originating in Japan that is based on Victorian-era clothing as well as costumes from the Rococo period, but the style has expanded greatly beyond these two.[1] The Lolita look began primarily as one of modesty with a focus on quality in both material and manufacture of garments. The original silhouette is of a knee length skirt or dress with a 'cupcake' shape assisted by petticoats, but has expanded into various types of garments including corsets and floor lengths skirts. Blouses, knee high socks or stockings and headdresses are also worn.[2] Lolita fashion has evolved into several different sub styles and has a subculture that is present in many parts of the world.
Although the origin of Lolita fashion is unclear, it is likely the movement started in the late 1970s when famous labels including Pink House, Milk and Pretty (later known as
Angelic Pretty) began selling clothes that would be considered "Lolita" by today's standards. Shortly after that came
Baby, The Stars Shine Bright, and
Metamorphose temps de fille. In the 1990s, Lolita fashion became better recognized, with bands like
Princess Princess coming into popularity at the time. These bands wore intricate costumes, which fans began adopting as their own style.

SWEET LOLITA:
Sweet Lolita, also known as
ama-loli (
甘ãƒãƒª ama rori?) in Japanese, is heavily influenced by Rococo styles as well as Victorian and Edwardian clothing. Focusing on the fantasy aspects of Lolita, the Sweet Lolita style adopts the basic Lolita format and uses lighter colors and childlike motifs in its design.
Makeup used in sweet Lolita is common throughout most Lolita styles. Pink, Peach, or Pearl make up styles are highly 'sweet' and used by many Sweet Lolitas. This look, paired with a shade of bright pink, red or sometimes nude-pink lipstick, is commonly used as well.
Outfits consist of pastels, fruit themes (cherries or strawberries, or any type of sugary fruit), flowers (roses, jasmines, lily, cherry blossoms) lace, bows, animal themes (cats, bunnies, puppies) and ribbons to emphasize the cuteness of the design. Popular themes in the sweet Lolita are references to Alice in Wonderland, sweets, and classic fairy tales. Jewelry often reflects this fantasy theme. Headdresses, bonnets and bows are a popular hair accessory to the sweet Lolita look. Bags and purses usually have a princess-like design and often take the shape of strawberries, crowns, hearts, and stuffed animals.

ELEGANT GOTHIC ARISTOCRATS:
Elegant Gothic Aristocrat (EGA) is a subset of
Gothic Lolita fashion, popular in Japan. The term Elegant Gothic Aristocrat was originally coined by
Mana, a fashion designer and former band leader of
Malice Mizer, and is used to describe his brand of clothing carried in his store
Moi-même-Moitié. EGA gained momentum on the Japanese fashion streets in the late 1990’s when their onstage rock-idol attire spread like wild fire among his fans. Eventually, the style became more accessible when mainstream stores began to carry EGA apparel.
The style imitates the mature decadence of the late
Victorian era, with emphasis on simplicity and elegance. It is an androgynous style consisting of black and white, dark colours and natural tones with delicate detailing such as ruffles or lace trimmings, and completed with black, clunky boots and heavy makeup. Accessories are also essential items in achieving the EGA look. They include corsets, gloves, waistcoats, conspicuous pocket books, stockings, bows and top hats. Unlike the Lolita fashions, Elegant Gothic
Aristocrats wear long skirts or wide-legged trousers, tailored and streamlined jackets, and tight-fitting, long-sleeved shirts and blouses.
Aristocrat is a
Japanese street fashion that is inspired by what is thought to have been worn by
Middle Class and higher social status
Europeans in the
Middle Ages, as well as the
upper class in the 19th century. The fashion includes long sleeve
blouses and shirts, long skirts,
corsetry, and pants and dresses that are styled similarly for men and women, since it is centered on
androgyny and
elegance. Makeup, when worn with the fashion, is on the darker side, may be heavy, and can be worn by both genders.
Madam, the feminine version, is more influenced by 19th century fashion. The fashion includes, in addition to the above, dresses with feminine but not usually frilly styling in a variety of colors. Makeup, when worn, is usually mature and on the slightly heavier side, though not excessive.
